About Mele

If I could give Mele ten stars, I would! She worked as a companion and caregiver for my mom from January until she died at the end of August 2026 while at home under hospice care. What started off as a 12 hour/day job turned into 24 care with Mele at the helm, when she ultimately needed to bring in two more colleagues so that we always had someone caring for my mom, and at my dad's side. Mele and her team weren’t just caregivers to my mom, they were friends to her. They made her laugh, they distracted her, and they gave her so much dignity in the worst of moments. Nobody wants to go through the indignities that come with dying from colon cancer that has spread to the brain, but a lot of people do, and it’s kind of a miracle that Mele and her team came into our lives to make things so much better for my mom, so much better for my dad, and so much better for me, my brother and all the grandkids. To get specific about just some of her skills: Mele and her team kept impeccable records to support requests from the hospice nurses and the long term care insurance, she made the team schedule and ensured that there were never any gaps in coverage that would leave my dad alone, she ran point on all of the tedious weekly long term care insurance paperwork and knew exactly when to share her expertise or opinion, and when to just observe. The hospice nursing team gave her big compliments for how she cared for my mom -- making sure that she was well fed, clean, happy and safe. Not only that, but she made sure that my mom looked the way she wanted so that she could feel as much like herself as possible until the end: cute outfits, well-coifed, made up and with her signature smell. And when it came time to employ frequent and high dose pain management, she did it with acute attention to detail. I have absolutely no reservations about making the highest of recommendations for the care that Mele can provide. Her and her team became like family to us and I hope that she lands with a new family that appreciates what an amazing caregiver she is.
